Our PTA worked very hard this year to continue to mindfully spend down our reserves in ways that would make lasting impacts on our students and the school. We were able to purchase 52 iPads and 30 Kindles for our classrooms, a much-needed upgrade for our multi-purpose room sound system, additional outdoor tables for the courtyard (to be installed soon!) and display boards for our art fair (thank you Rasmus Olsson, Sheryl Platt, Beth Soto and Paulie Proffett). We are hoping to install a new track over the summer, which will help smooth out the running surface around the entire playground.

We continue to have a "Wish List" budget that provided funds for kindergarten picnic tables, carpets, maps, books and professional development opportunities for our teachers. To that end, the PTA is sending our 1st grade teachers to New York this summer for a one week intensive New York City Writing Project training and conference.

The PTA was able to provide these important tools and worthwhile activities because of the financial support of our LES parent community, and our partnership with Lafayette Partners in Education. Due to the success of our One Great School, One Great Party, the PTA will donate $18,400 to LPIE this year. Next year, LPIE will provide more than $1.4 million dollars to the Lafayette School District (the most ever in one year!) LPIE provides funds for academic programming, services and enrichment that directly impacts each and every student at Lafayette Elementary.

Next year, LPIE will be funding an enhanced science program, cutting-edge math instruction, expert music training, hands-on, professional art lessons, classroom instructional aides, and interactive social science instruction. Additionally, next year is Lafayette School's turn in the technology rotation, which means that LPIE will be purchasing 32 new computers for our computer lab. Our current computer lab computers (only 5 years old) will be divided up amongst the classrooms to replace older devices.

As I wind down my second year as PTA President, I want to thank the PTA Executive Board and especially my Co-President, Valerie Keely. Not only did she help lead our PTA this year, she also had a baby! (How many people can say that?) She and Caroline Conner also headed up last week's amazing Teacher Appreciation activities (with special help from Kim McLellan). How great were the door decorations? I know our teachers and staff felt loved and very appreciated, and I have a feeling that may be a new tradition added to the week!

Thanks, too, to our entire PTA Executive Board: Ann Huchingson, Nicole Dunderdale, Kelly Daggs, Trish Gregovich, Chris Cooper, Molly Cooper, Amy Madrigal, Natalie Souza, Mark Darfler, Kim McLellan, Paulie Proffett, Kristin Gannon and Principal Mary Maddux. It has been a pleasure working with all of you, and I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Lafayette Elementary community.
Enjoy your last few weeks of school!
